Oil-Free Beef and Ale Pie

This oil-free version of classic British Beef & Ale Pie is sure to be a hit with everyone! Enjoy this hearty dish without any added oil by cooking up lean beef mince in a non-stick skillet before simmering it in dark ale or stout beer along with onion, garlic, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, flour and beef stock or broth for 10 minutes before topping it off with pastry (optional) before baking in preheated oven for 40 minutes! Ingredients:

200g lean beef mince
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon tomato puree
150ml dark ale or stout beer
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons plain flour
200ml beef stock or broth
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions:

Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F.
Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the beef mince and cook until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the onion and garlic and cook until softened. Add the tomato puree, ale or stout beer, Worcestershire sauce, flour, beef stock or broth and thyme leaves. Simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
Return the cooked mince to the skillet and season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for a further 5 minutes before transferring to an ovenproof dish.
Top with pastry of your choice (optional) before baking in preheated oven for 40 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables of your choice!
