Ingredients:

250ml warm water
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
300g whole wheat flour (or other whole grain flour)

Cooking Instructions:

In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, honey or maple syrup, salt and olive oil or melted butter. Stir until everything is combined.
Add the whole wheat flour to the bowl and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased with oil or butter. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake buns for 25 minutes until golden brown on top. Let cool before serving.
